A. Yes, you do. Finding an available domain name and registering it is the
first step towards having your own website. It’s very straightforward,
and we can help you with the process.
Some of our packages
even include domain registration for the first year (or first two
years) free of charge. Click here for details.
A. Try to think where your market lies. For example, if you want to sell
your products and services to customers all over the world, go for a
.com name, which is international.
If you want to sell to customers only in the UK, then a .co.uk name will be best.
Also, remember that if you're ever going to expand internationally, you
should think about registering both .com and .co.uk to help safeguard
your trade name.
A. UK domains (.co.uk and .org.uk) are usually transferred in 24 - 48 hours. International domains (.com and .org) can sometimes take a little longer.
A. Yes, you can. It’s a straightforward procedure, and we can help and advise on this.
That said, a lot can depend on the agreement you have with the company
that currently hosts your domain and how cooperative they are.
A. First, we need to know:
If
you’re a limited company, we need to know your company number. And if
you’re a not-for-profit organisation, we need your charity number.
If you have a separate contact email (i.e. one that’s not linked to the
domain we’re hosting for you) that would be helpful.
As we also set up an initial email account for you we need to know what
email address you'd like. It’ll take the form:
<yourname>@<yourdomain>.<extension>
A. We can set up an account almost instantly and you can start to upload
files, set up mailboxes and create FTP accounts as soon as the account
is on our server.
However, it does take time for the domain
(the web address) you have chosen or are transferring to propagate –
that is, to update its address on servers right around the world. This
process is normally completed within 24 hours for a UK domain (.co.uk
or .org.uk).
International domains (.com or .org) take a little longer.
A. Once we’ve received payment and your account is set up, we’ll send you
a welcome email with details of your username and password.
These details will give you access to the hosting control panel. From
there, you’ll be able to set up additional email accounts and tweak the
hosting package to suit your needs.
A. We can certainly set up your MySQL database if you’d like us to.
However, this is not included in the hosting fee, so we’d charge you a
small fee to do this.
Similarly, if you want us to help you to
install a particular PHP script/package (e.g. a WordPress blog or a
bulletin board) we’ll happily do it for a small fee. Contact us for
details.
A. Yes we do. You can access phpMyAdmin from the control panel.
A. You can access your CPanel control panel simply by adding /cpanel to the end of your domain address. For example:
www.fishfoodhosting.co.uk/cpanel
You’ll then be asked for your username and password, which we sent in your welcome email.
At this point, it’s a good idea to change your password using the
Change password option on the control panel. You can choose something that’s easy for you to remember, but impossible for anybody else to guess.
A. Yes. You’ll find comprehensive documentation at: www.cpanel.net/docs/cpanel/.
A. Your incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers can be specified
in your email program (e.g. Microsoft Outlook).
You use the same setting for both, using the following format:
mail.<yourdomain> (e.g.mail.fishfoodhosting.co.uk)
A. You can access your CPanel control panel simply by adding /webmail to the end of your domain address. For example:
www.fishfoodhosting.co.uk/webmail
At the login screen, you need to enter your complete email address (including the @<yourdomain>.<extension>)
and password. This could be the initial one you asked us to set up, or
one that you’ve subsequently set up yourself using the control panel.
Do remember that the username and password for webmail are separate from the username and password for the control panel.
A. All hosting packages are billed annually. A month before your hosting
package is due for renewal, we’ll send you a reminder email and an
invoice.
If you don’t renew your package, we’ll send reminder
emails at weekly intervals until you renew the package or let us know
that you no longer wish to host with us.
If you don’t renew your package by the expiry date, it’ll be suspended
for a further fortnight. After that, it’s liable for deletion.
A. You can upgrade your package at any time. You then simply pay the extra for the remainder of your contract.
You can downgrade only when your hosting contract is due for renewal.
We’ll happily advise you on the best package based on your needs and
usage.
A. We make regular backups of our servers, but it is the client's duty to ensure that their work is backed up at regular intervals in order to achieve maximum protection against data loss.
A. This is a file which we put on all new accounts mainly for security reasons. This and other placeholder files are contained in the FTP area and are labelled:
Enter files here...
As soon as you’re ready to upload your website files, you can simply delete these using the FTP utility.
A. Fishfood Hosting, together with its sister company Besupported, has an
ethical approach to business. We don’t host sites that have undesirable
content or anything that might compromise the security of our servers.
You can find more information on our ethical hosting policy here.
A. Yes, you can. This happens all the time and it’s generally a simple process.
If you’re unsure how to transfer your web site content from your
existing host to Fishfood Hosting, we’ll be happy to help - though we
will charge you a small fee, as it’s outside of the scope of the
hosting agreement. Contact us for details.
